Meghan is currently a nursing student at the University of Massachusetts Boston in the Robert and Donna Manning College of Nursing with a minor in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. This will be her fourth year serving on the MaSNA Board of Directors! She is ecstatic to be president of such a wonderful organization for the second year in a row. Meghan currently works as a Nursing Assistant at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston in the Emergency Department, and as a Student Nurse Assistant on a Medical Surgical unit at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. Post graduation, she aspires to be a critical care nurse, but is keeping her mind open to other fields as well. She is also interested in eventually furthering her education to become a Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Educator. Outside of nursing, Meghan loves to workout, hike, draw, crochet, read, travel, and just be outside! As President of MaSNA, she hopes to continue to collaborate and create meaningful relationships with other students, nursing professionals, and staff, as well as foster an environment of positive change. She believes that kindness, empathy, nursing leadership, communication, and teamwork are a few of many qualities that make a great nurse. Over the years, MaSNA has helped her continue to expand upon these qualities and grow her love for the nursing profession. She looks forward to being a part of such a passionate and driven team, and cannot wait to see what they accomplish this year! Diana Ghareeb is a Sophomore nursing student in the Lillian R. Goodman School of Nursing, while also minoring in Disability Studies. This year Diana will be taking the role of President Elect, practicing under the current President Meghan. This is her first year being part of the BOD for MaSNA and her second year being part of the BOD for Worcester States SNA. She is super excited to learn the roles of President and be part of another fun team. Diana currently works at Umass Memorial Medical Center in the MICU as a PCA, and hopes to one day be a nurse in her unit. Her goals are to specialize in critical care and eventually further pursue a career as a Nurse Practitioner. In her free time she loves to spend time with friends and family, go to the movies, paint and listen to music. Diana is super excited to grow into her role and can’t wait for all the great memories and opportunities this will bring!

Schenene (she/her) is a junior majoring in Nursing and minoring in Global Public Health and the Common Good at Boston College in the Connell School of Nursing. Last year, she served as The Population and Global Health Chair for MaSNA. This year Schenene is returning to serve as the Vice President, where she is delighted to continue her work within this phenomenal organization. Her passion for nursing is rooted in diversifying the healthcare field, and making a difference in the lives of others. This summer, Schenene was an Orientation Leader where she served as an ambassador for her university and she also worked as a Patient Care Associate at the Brigham and Women's Hospital on an Orthopedic unit. This academic year, Schenene will be an Undergraduate Research Fellow. After graduating, she is interested in becoming an Oncology nurse. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, grabbing lunch with friends, and binge watching Netflix TV shows. Schenene is excited for this upcoming year to work with other passionate nursing students on the board, and continue expanding her knowledge in the nursing field.

This is Ashley Shaughnessy, it is her second year on the board but is taking on a new position as Secretary! Ashley will be a senior nursing student at Worcester State University. At school she is the Vice President of the SNA club. She currently works at Boston Children’s Hospital and hopes to continue working there as a nurse once she graduates. In her free time she loves to run and has completed multiple half marathons. She is also always looking for good coffee place suggestions! During the summer she enjoys relaxing at the lake but during the school is ready to work hard, and is excited to continue learning and making connections through MaSNA!

This is Nyla Boler. She is the treasurer for MaSNA. She is a junior at Boston College. She is from Birmingham, Alabama. She enjoys traveling and hanging out with friends. She decided to go into nursing because of her grandmother. The connection they made while her grandmother was sick was very meaningful and inspired her to continue helping others through positive connections and interactions.

Sara is nursing student at the University of Massachusetts Boston in the Robert and Donna Manning College of Nursing. This is her second year on the board, she was previously the elections and resolutions chair; now will take the media chair role. This summer she is working in the OR at South Shore Hospital and getting her Doula certification. Sara is not sure what type of nursing she wants to do yet but is interested in the operating room, NICU and nurse aesthetics. She wants to eventually get her masters once she figures out what type of nursing she wants to go into. When she isn't studying Sara enjoys going to the beach reading, working out at the gym, trying new restaurants around Boston and traveling.

Susie is a junior pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Boston College. This is her first year serving as the Newsletter Chair on the MaSNA Board. Susie has always loved interacting with children, which led her to want to become a Pediatric or NICU nurse initially. After starting her nursing school journey, she has been more open to exploring different types of nursing specialities. Susie hopes to find one that she is passionate about through her different clinical rotations. She eventually wants to further her degree and become a Nurse Practitioner. Outside of school, Susie enjoys traveling, hanging out with her friends, baking, and going on walks. She is looking forward to collaborating with other board members, as well as fostering the growth of the next generation of nurses!

Gina is currently a senior at UMass Boston, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Gina currently works as a clinical assistant on the Neuro floor at Boston Children’s. She has always loved working with kids and has found her passion at Children’s, with the end goal of becoming an RN there. Gina is looking forward to creating connections and building lifelong relationships with MaSNA! Aside from school and work, Gina has found a love for running, especially enjoying the NYC half! Also, she enjoys reading a good book, snuggling with her dog Ellie (pictured), and long beach days.

Iza Julie is a senior at Worcester State University pursuing a bachelor of Nursing Science with a minor in Public Health. She works as a CCT at Tufts Medical Center in Boston on a medical-surgical floor. She hopes to enter Pediatric or maternity nursing once she graduates in the spring. Iza grew up on the North Shore and loved to spend her time at the beach with a good book during the summer and try new restaurants in the winter.

Hannah is currently a Junior Nursing student at Worcester State University with a minor in Psychology and will be this years Region 3 chair! This is her first year serving under the MSNA board but she is so excited to be a part of this organization! Hannah plans to work in pediatrics when she finishes her RN license. She even hopes to further her education and knowledge by eventually going to school to become a Nurse Practitioner. Outside of school and studying Hannah enjoys working out, spending time with her friends and family, and loves the beach. She is so excited to be a part of this team and looks forward to a great year!

This years Region 4 position will be held by Madison Ferrara! Madison is a junior in the nursing program at Worcester State University. She is from Somerset, Massachusetts. Madison does not know what field of nursing she wants to pursue but any field of women’s medicine interests her. She is also minoring in women, gender and sexuality studies. Madison currently lives in Somerset, MA where she works as a direct care worker for special needs adults in a group home setting. When she’s in Worcester she works as a PCA at Umass memorial on an adult medical/surgical floor! Her dream is to become a Nurse Practitioner and work in OBGYN. Aside from nursing she is also a goalkeeper for the Worcester State Field Hockey team!

Michaela O’Brien will be our region five chair for this year! She is a junior in Worcester State University’s department of nursing with a minor in Spanish for health professions. She just started her first healthcare job as a nursing assistant in the float pool at Beth Israel Lahey Hospital in Burlington, MA, and is excited for the opportunities it may bring her in the future, as she would love to work as a pediatric nurse someday! She plays on the women’s soccer team at Worcester State and loves to hang out with her friends and teammates when she’s not studying. She also love going on runs, going to the gym, or watching movies with her friends. And when she’s not reading her nursing textbooks she loves to read for fun! She is super excited to be joining MaSNA, and can’t wait to see all the opportunities it provides, as well as being connected with so many more nursing students!

Marci Giorgio is a senior at Worcester State University. She is currently serving as secretary as her school’s SNA and fundraising chair for MASNA! Marci currently works at Umass Memorial Medical Center as a PCA on a med surg floor. She hopes to become a pediatric nurse once she graduates. After graduation Marci also is hoping to go get her MSN also at Worcester State! In her free time she likes to go shopping, try new restaurants, and hang out with friends and family. She can’t wait to get involved with MASNA this year and hopes to finish her senior year strong!

Summer is a junior at Boston College pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This is her first year as a member of the MaSNA, and will be serving as the Breakthrough to Nursing Chair. Summer is currently working as a PCA on an orthopedics floor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and pursuing two research positions. She is still exploring the many fields of nursing with an open mind, with hopes to to become a Nurse Practitioner in the future. In her downtime, Summer enjoys going for walks on the beach, reading new/different books, and binge watching shows. She can't wait to meet other people who share her passion for nursing and learn from them on this journey.

Sarah is currently a nursing student at the University of Massachusetts Boston. This is her first year with MaSNA, and she will be serving as the Population and Global Health Chair. Sarah also works at Tufts Medical Center in Boston as a CCT on the Complex Medical Unit. In her free time, Sarah enjoys reading, hiking, and trips to the beach. Sarah plans on working in pediatrics after graduating with the hopes of becoming a NICU or PICU nurse. Meagan is currently entering her senior year at University of Massachusetts Boston. She has worked on a med surg/tele/VICU unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for the past year. Her goal upon graduation is to work in the NICU or another pediatric ICU setting and eventually become a CRNA. Outside of nursing, Meagan is a student athlete for UMB’s women’s varsity tennis team as well as part of the honors college and SNA. In her free time she spends a lot of her time in the gym, reading and hanging out with friends! Meagan is very excited to join MaSNA and expand her leadership skills, connections and and gain more knowledge of the nursing profession

Judith Shindul-Rothschild is an associate professor at Boston College School of Nursing where she teaches psychiatric mental health nursing and health policy to undergraduate and graduate students. She is a psychiatric nurse clinical specialist and has practiced in a variety of mental health care settings. Dr. Shindul-Rothschild's research and writings have focused on the relationships between health care financing, registered nurse staffing, nurses' working conditions, and the quality of care in hospital settings.
Dr. Shindul-Rothschild is co-author of the book Aging and Public Policy: Social Control or Social Justice? She has published numerous articles on the impact of health policies on patient care and nursing practice in professional journals such as The American Nurse, The American Journal of Nursing, Advanced Practice Nursing, Best Practices and Benchmarking in Healthcare, Critical Care Nursing, Journal of Emergency Nursing, Journal of Nursing Administration, Journal of Nursing Care Quality, Journal of Nursing Education, Policy, Politics and Nursing Practice, Nursing Management, Revolution, and The Massachusetts NURSE Newsletter.
She and Suzanne Gordon, a journalist, have published articles for the public on the adverse effects of competition or market based health financing in The Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, and The Nation. She has been widely quoted by the national print, television, and radio media in the United States, Australia and Canada including Good Morning America, NBC Nightly News, PBS, Canadian Broadcasting Company, Australian Public Radio, The New York Times, US News and World Report, Newsweek, USA Today, Bloomberg BNA, Modern Healthcare, The Wall Street Journal and National Public Radio. She has served as a faculty representative to the Boston College Athletic Advisory Committee and is the academic advisor for many student-athletes in the William F. Connell School of Nursing.
